Building Trust Remote: The Why
Right. I need to be honest with you guys on the title chosen this time.
The past few days I went back over and over reading Jesse Choi's Medium. You heard me right. Jesse Choi, Maudy Ayunda's husband. The couple has been inspiring and how they go towards what they want in life (from what they share on social media, of course) inspires me, including the writing. Therefore, here I am. Borrowing the idea of the title, please allow me to tell you why I want to build Trust Remote, how I envision it, and why you should consider Trust Remote seriously.
As you guys probably already know, I have been in the remote work industry for more than 10 years now. Throughout the years, friends were coming by and sharing how their work treated them. I also listened to their milestones and professional achievements. Then there I was hearing their problems at work and unconsciously compared them to how I experienced my work. To a certain extent, they were far different. I had a good career and decent pay, climbed up pretty fast, was accommodated and listened to at work, and what's more important was I was able to expand my network internationally.
Sadly, my closer circles didn't experience it the way I did. Common problems were work environment was toxic, the pay wasn't good, they weren't accommodated at the office, and many more. It's not that I said my luck was better, but when I thought about the core problem of those stories, they had similarities. They worked for local companies with local cultures, implemented decades of procedures at work, lots and lots of hierarchy at the office, and that other stuff, you know what I referred to. Again, not that I said local companies are always bad. No. Gojek, Tokopedia, TentangAnak, and other institutions built by and for millennials are great! No doubt. They have been contributing so much to our society and country. Wonderful innit!
If you notice the companies I mentioned above, they also have similarities. The higher-ups, and the majority of the team members, are exposed to international cultures professionally. Whether you like it or not, that helps them to go far and beyond. The process might not be easy. That's a privilege I agree. However, can you imagine a life without those innovations, people, and experiences? You're gonna live in an endless looped cycle.
That's what I want to bring as part of the solutions. I want to help people to get exposed to a professional multicultural environment that can help them gain what they're looking for, assist them to scale up to the next level, and go beyond.
I carefully think through how Trust Remote can help others to go to "that level". It started with the name, Trust and Remote. I believe we need to have trust between partners to do things. Especially with a remote team. You really can't do anything if you don't trust your remote team members. Trust me, I had the experience to build a company size 350+ in-house members with outsourced teams from different continents. All you need to have first is trust, then skills come next.
These are the introduction story behind Trust Remote. Will be sharing the next chapter in the next post 😊👍
